If you’ve invested in aftermarket upgrades like carbon fiber kits, widebody panels, custom wheels, performance parts, or aesthetic modifications you may have heard that these parts are not automatically covered by standard auto insurance policies, even if the rest of the vehicle is fully insured.
This is where an Aftermarket Endorsement comes in.
What Is an Aftermarket Endorsement?
An Aftermarket Endorsement is an optional add-on to your auto insurance policy that specifically covers non-factory parts and modifications installed on your vehicle. Insurance companies typically classify these upgrades as “custom equipment,” and without an endorsement, they often pay only to restore the vehicle to its original factory condition after a collision.
Most auto insurance policies are written to match the original manufacturer specifications. Anything added afterward, no matter how expensive or professionally installed, is considered non-OEM equipment. Insurers generally do not assume responsibility for these unless you declare them.

How to Make Sure Your Upgrades Are Properly Covered
1. Call your insurance provider and request an “Aftermarket Equipment Endorsement” or “Custom Parts and Equipment Coverage.”
Different carriers may use slightly different terms.
2. Create a list of all aftermarket parts on your vehicle
Include brand names, part numbers, and the date purchased.
3. Keep receipts, invoices, or screenshots showing purchase price
Insurers often require proof of value.
4. Take detailed photos of the installed parts
This helps during claim verification.
5. Confirm the dollar limit of the endorsement
For many heavily modified cars, the default coverage (often only $1,000–$5,000) is far too low. You can usually increase it to meet the value of your parts.
What Happens During a Collision Claim with Aftermarket Coverage?
If you are involved in a collision, having the endorsement means the insurer must consider your custom parts as part of the repair estimate.
At Paragon Auto Collision, we document and photograph all damaged aftermarket components and provide proper OEM-plus or aftermarket replacement pricing so the insurer understands the specialty nature of your upgrades. Without this documentation, many adjusters default to stock pricing, which significantly lowers your payout. Having the aftermarket endorsement will help us ensure your parts are paid for.
What Now?
If you’ve invested in customizing your car, protecting those upgrades is just as important as the mods themselves. If you are unsure how Aftermarket Endorsement works, then give us a call at (832) 933-9083 and our team will guide you through the process with your insurer.
